Diani Turtle Watch

Since its inception in 2012, Diani Turtle Watch has been actively involved in the preservation of turtles in the Diani Beach region of Kenya’s South Coast. Covering an area of approximately 50km from Waa to Funzi Island, our committed team of turtle monitors diligently patrol the beach each morning, keeping a vigilant eye out for turtle nesting activities, mortality, and instances of turtles being stranded. The team provide essential assistance, support, and protection of turtles whenever required.

The prominent turtle species in this area are the green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and the hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), with the green turtles being the dominant species.

Operating from the Marine Education Centre within the Nomad Beach Resort Resort, Diani Turtle Watch aims to educate and raise awareness among local communities, schools, and tourists about the global endangerment of these remarkable creatures. By working together, we can ensure their conservation for generations to come.
