Olive Ridley Project
In 2018, the Olive Ridley Project (ORP) embarked on a mission to study and protect sea turtles in Kenya. The primary focus lies in the Diani-chale Marine Reserve, located along the picturesque south coast of Kenya. Through a variety of innovative methods including snorkelling, diving surveys, drone surveys, and citizen science, we meticulously assess the temporal and spatial distribution of sea turtles, as well as their population size.
The ultimate goal in this project is to enhance sea turtle conservation efforts in Kenya. By expanding our understanding of their distribution patterns and identifying potential threats, we aim to bolster the protection of these magnificent creatures and their precious habitats.
The Olive Ridley’s Biologist join DTC’s daily dive trips, offering their expertise and insights to our divers, free of charge, as well as using the trips as the perfect opportunity to monitor the resident turtle populations.
