At Diving the Crab, we take immense pride in being East Africa’s only PADI Eco Center, a testament to our dedication to marine conservation and sustainable practices. Our efforts go beyond the water, as we strive to protect and preserve the delicate marine ecosystems that make diving so magical.

Diving in protected areas
Here at Diving the Crab we dive in the Diani Chale marine reserve which was established in 1995 mainly to offer refuge to endangered fish species and coral reefs. The marine reserve extends from Tiwi Estuary in the north to Chale Island in the south in Kenya.

In the marine reserve we have a plethora of marine creatures from hundreds of little Nudibranchs to a healthy population of Green and Hawksbill turtles.

Green Fins Membership & Guides
As a proud Green Fins Digital Member, we follow strict guidelines to minimize our environmental footprint. Every member of our dive team is a certified Green Fin Guide, trained to ensure our diving activities have the least possible impact on the underwater world.

Conservation in Action

Our team is deeply involved in hands-on conservation efforts, including:

• Beach Cleanups: Regularly organised to reduce marine debris and protect coastal ecosystems.
• Underwater Cleanups on Every Dive: During each dive, we encourage divers to assist in removing litter and debris to protect the underwater environment.
• Ghost Net Removals: Actively retrieving abandoned fishing gear to safeguard marine life.

Environmental Education:
We offer specialised PADI environmental courses to empower divers to protect the marine world.

• Dive Against Debris: Learn how to safely remove marine debris and contribute to global data on ocean pollution.
• Coral Reef Conservation: Gain deeper understanding of coral ecosystems and how to protect them.

Eco-friendly Alternatives

We are committed to sustainability and do much more than just basics. this includes:

• Reef-safe sunscreen to protect coral reefs
• Reusable water bottles and refill stations
• Durable, reusable Tupperware for packed lunches and snacks

And much more to reduce water and promote environmentally conscious choices.

Supporting Environmental Charities.

• The Olive Ridley Project (ORP): We allow ORP marine biologists to dive for free to collect valuable data about sea turtles population. Additionally, we support their internship program by providing training for their divers,empowering the next generation of marine conservationists.
• Diani Turtle Watch (DTW): Our Diani Beach base is located next to the headquarters of the diani turtle Watch, so e sure to visit them when you’re here! We support DTW through regular donations and assist them where possible ensuring they can continue their vital work protecting and conserving our local sea turtle populations.
